This conference is hosted and presented by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium.  La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA, is located on the scenic Mississippi River, offering an excellent venue for a conference on major river basins.

This is the third in a series of international conferences on large river basins; the first was at Dubna University (Russia), along the Volga River in 2002, and second was at Assiut University (Egypt), along the Nile River in 2003.
